Report: Chiefs have inquired about Texans WR Brandin Cooks

The Kansas City Chiefs are doing their diligence on some of the trade options around the league.

Fans are hopeful that Brett Veach can make a move ahead of the Nov. 1 trade deadline. While that remains to be seen, it’s clear there is at least some level of interest in acquiring a player. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the Chiefs are among the three teams who have reached out to the Texans about the availability of WR Brandin Cooks.

“That isn’t from lack of interest, though. Cooks has been the subject of multiple trade inquiries, including the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and the Rams. Nothing has advanced into anything that could be characterized as developing at this time heading into next Tuesday’s deadline.”

The 5-10 and 183-pound wideout is one of the league’s most frequently traded players. Back in 2017, Cooks was traded from New Orleans to New England. In 2018, the Patriots traded him to the Rams. Los Angeles eventually traded him to the Houston Texans where he has spent the last three seasons. The impressive thing about Cooks is that he has seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons since 2015 despite all of the trade movement and playing with an unimpressive group of quarterbacks.

The numbers are down for Cooks this season in Houston with 28 receptions for 281 yards and one touchdown through six games played. He’s averaging just 10 yards per reception, which is the lowest mark of his career. He’s still a speedy player with the ability to stretch the field and adding him to a receiver corps like the one they have in Kansas City could help push that group over the top.

It’s clear that Cooks is on the trade block as the Texans held him out of Wednesday’s practice.
