Report: Bulls continue to ‘change their mind’ on trading their core

The Chicago Bulls have had one of the more fascinating season’s so far in the NBA.

They currently sit as the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference with an 18-21 record, riding a three-game winning streak and winners of eight of their last 11 games.

Prior to this stretch, the Bulls were seen as a team primed to blow up their team for the future, trading their core such as DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and Alex Caruso — but, that might not be the case anymore.

Reported by Marc Stein on his Substack on Sunday, Chicago’s recent play could have changed the minds of the front office on their game plan for next month’s trade deadline.

Interesting theory passed along by a Western Conference team official regarding the Chicago Bulls and the similar-to-Toronto anticipation among rival teams that the Bulls will decide to trade various core players before the deadline: “The word out there is that every time the Bulls get close to breaking the team up, they get a big win that changes their mind.” Since surrendering 150 points to struggling Minnesota on Dec. 18, Chicago has quietly gone 8-3.

That sure is the feeling — the Bulls have matched three-game losing streaks with three-game winning streaks against contending teams, making it difficult to gauge how the front office views this team going forward.

One thing is for sure — the next month will decide the fate of the current core of the Bulls.
