As new Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen looks to build out his coaching staff, one place it doesn’t sound like he will be bringing in coaches from is Tampa Bay.
According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Bucs won’t be letting any assistants head to Jacksonville.
“I can tell you this right now, the Bucs are not going to be letting any of their assistants go on over to Jacksonville to work with Liam Coen,” Jones said.
Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union mentioned a few Tampa Bay assistant coaches that could be of interest to the Jaguars under Coen in pass game coordinator Josh Grizzard, offensive line coach Kevin Carberry, assistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci, tight ends coach Justin Peele, and linebackers coach/defensive pass game coordinator Larry Foote.
However, if Jones’ report holds true, bringing any of those potential candidates to Jacksonville sounds like it will be a difficult endeavor.
I’m sure, to some degree, the Bucs’ reported unwillingness to let these coaches leave for Jacksonville has to do with how Coen ended up with the Jaguars’ job.
As Coen builds out his staff, the only concrete thing we know right now is that Daronte Jones will be interviewing for the defensive coordinator role.
Two potential names of interest for offensive coordinator could be Chip Kelly and Grant Udinski–although there aren’t any official reports at this time that the Jaguars are pursuing either candidate.
“As head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, I will hire a first-class coaching staff, establish a distinctive and effective brand of football on both sides of the ball, and our players will live for the black and teal,” wrote Coen in a statement after accepting the Jaguars’ head coaching job.
