As new Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen looks to build out his offensive staff, he reportedly requested to interview Tampa Bay’s offensive line coach Kevin Carberry for a similar role.
However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the request was blocked.
The #Jaguars requested to interview #Bucs offensive line coach Kevin Carberry for a similar role but were blocked by Tampa Bay, per sources.
New head coach Liam Coen, former Bucs OC, had success with Carberry last year and looked into bringing him along.

This aligns with a report from earlier in the week from CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones who said that the Bucs’ likely aren’t going to let any of their assistants follow Coen to Jacksonville.
“I can tell you this right now, the Bucs are not going to be letting any of their assistants go on over to Jacksonville to work with Liam Coen,” Jones said.
With Carberry as the Bucs’ offensive line coach in 2024, Tampa Bay produced one of the best running games in football–ranking top-five in yards per game. The Bucs’ offensive line also allowed the fifth-lowest pressure rate last season, according to Pro Football Reference.
But beyond the Bucs’ wanting to keep a quality coach on their staff, one would guess that how things unfolded last week with how Coen ended up the Jaguars head coach may be a factor as well.
A key element to getting Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense back on track will be in having a steady running game to lean on.
Right now we know that the Jaguars have had several defensive coordinator candidates in for interviews and there has been one confirmed offensive coordinator interview to take place so far as well.
