The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t giving up on quarterback Tom Brady, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. They are leaving the door open for Brady to come out of retirement, in the event he rethinks his decision.
Just. In. Case.
Brady said he would “never say never” on returning to the NFL during an appearance on his Sirius XM podcast. Retired Patriots receiver Julian Edelman, one of Brady’s best friends, also said it “wouldn’t surprise” him if the quarterback came out of retirement at some point over the next year or so.
Here’s what Rapoport and Pelissero reported:
“The Buccaneers are leaving the door open for Tom Brady in case the legendary quarterback changes his mind on retirement, and sources say they would do whatever is necessary for him to return — a possibility Brady himself isn’t completely ruling out.”
It would be wild if Brady pulled a Brett Favre and started bringing back the will-he-won’t-he drama every training camp. It would be a headache to see Brady draw the ire of so many NFL fans by returning — after so much admiration poured out during his retirement announcement. It would also be very cool if Brady played more football at the age of 45.
