Report: Boston’s Payton Pritchard a player of interest with the Phoenix Suns

Fans of the Boston Celtics who assume reserve point guard Payton Pritchard doesn’t have much trade value after his limited floor time in the 2022-23 campaign might be surprised. The former Oregon standout has been a target of note for at least one team and seems to be a major part of the 2023 offseason’s trade landscape per new reporting from Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer.

Per Fischer, Pritchard “has several supporters in Phoenix’s front office” and “is expected to feature prominently in the NBA’s general trade landscape this summer,” when the West Linn native becomes eligible for an extension.

With the Suns exploring ways to get off Chris Paul’s contract, a move to deal for Pritchard could make sense as a low-cost option for the team to add to their already-thin point guard depth.

Moreover, Pritchard’s 40% 3-point shooting rate offers a tantalizing addition to a team already well-equipped to punish opponents from beyond the arc.
