Former longtime Indiana men’s basketball coach Bob Knight was hospitalized Friday evening with an acute illness, the Indianapolis Star reported Monday.
A message sent to program alumni informed the Hoosiers community of the news, per the Star. It’s unclear what the illness is at this time.
“Please join us in sending prayers to coach Knight and his family,” the message read, according to to WDRB's Rick Bozich. “Coach Knight was admitted to the hospital Friday evening and is currently recovering from an acute illness. The family’s hope is to have him back home soon.”
Knight, 82, coached the Hoosiers for 29 years. He won three national titles, appeared in five Final Fours and won the Big Ten championship 11 times. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991 and the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. At the time of his retirement in ’08, he ended his career with the most wins in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, at 902.
