Last week, the New York Giants announced the signing of quarterback Davis Webb, which reunited Big Blue with their 2017 third-round pick.
As it turns out, Webb had another opportunity potentially lined up had he decided to put his playing days behind him.
Webb, of course, was waived by the Giants and signed to the New York Jets’ practice squad back in 2018. Webb spent the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills organization, where he clearly made an impression during his time.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that the Bills were interested in hiring Webb as their assistant quarterbacks coach before he signed with the Giants.

Webb was on the Giants’ roster in 2017 — the year after they last made the postseason. Webb may have missed his best opportunity to be a starter or serviceable backup in the league when Ben McAdoo decided to start Geno Smith instead of Webb when the decision was made to bench two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, ending a streak of 210 consecutive games started.
While the money is undoubtedly a big reason why Webb decided to make the decision he made, it’s likely a coaching job will be available to him in the future.
With the injury history to Daniel Jones, it’s key that the Giants go into the 2022-2023 season with a more than serviceable backup quarterback given the way that their backups performed last season.
