Report: Bears ‘leaning toward’ trading No. 1 pick

The Chicago Bears are reportedly “leaning toward” trading away the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and the Indianapolis Colts have been linked heavily in the discussion throughout the offseason.

The Colts have been one of the most favored teams to move up in the draft order to the top spot in several mock drafts and trade proposals from pundits and analysts.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bears have been approached by multiple teams about trading the No. 1 overall pick, and it appears they’re leaning toward moving.

The Colts are likely going to reach out to inquire about a deal. Though their draft board is just being put together, they may have an idea after this week of who they want to draft at the quarterback position.

If the Colts feel strong convictions about one of the prospects over the rest of the group, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if general manager Chris Ballard made a deal to move up.

The price will certainly play a role in the discourse. The Colts probably want to do everything they can to keep their 2024 first-round pick while the Bears will (rightly) want that selection to be included. It isn’t clear what the addition of a player like Kenny Moore II would bring to the trade proposal.

This should be a fun week filled with rumors and reports while the Colts may be competing with a handful of teams who also will be gunning for the top spot in the draft.
