La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Milan Skriniar. Skriniar, who joined Les Parisiens for free in July 2023, is supposedly open to a change of scenery after falling down the pecking order under Luis Enrique.
Culminating a year-long transfer saga, Skriniar joined PSG ahead of the 2023-24 season on a free, having run down his contract with Serie A side Inter Milan. Fans expected Skriniar to become one of the first names on the team sheet and help them go deep in the UEFA Champions League. However, the Slovakian has yet to live up to expectations, with injuries and his inability to cater to Enrique’s demands stunting his progress.
The French champions reportedly tried to sell Skriniar in the summer transfer window. However, due to a lack of suitors, Skriniar had to stay put and try to win Enrique over. In October, Skriniar opened up about his situation, saying he was not happy with the opportunities he was getting.
He told Sport Aktuality:
“It is what it is, and I’m definitely not happy about it. The only thing I can influence is continue to train well and work hard. “Of course, I lack minutes, but I try to make up for them with training.”
Atletico Madrid Interested in Signing PSG Outcast Milan Skriniar
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, there is considerably more interest in Skriniar this winter, with Napoli, Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid all circling.
Los Rojiblancos are seemingly leading the race. They have already registered their interest, as Diego Simeone is keen on strengthening the team’s defence with an experienced, physically assertive centre-back. With Robin Le Normand, Jose María Gimenez, and Cesar Azpilicueta out injured and Reinaldo Mandava’s future up in the air, Atletico Madrid strongly believe that a solid centre-back is the need of the hour.
Atletico could propose a loan deal for Skriniar with the option to make his stay permanent. Such a deal could be attractive for both PSG and Atletico.
Skriniar, who sees his contract expire in June 2028, has played just 37 games for PSG since joining the club in 2022. He has scored just once, with it coming in the UEFA Champions League last season.
