Georgia is gearing up for its highly anticipated annual “scavenger hunt” recruiting event this weekend. The event, known for attracting top national talent, invites prospects to explore the UGA campus in search of none other than Kirby Smart himself.
This event usually draws a large crowd of some of the nation’s top talent to Athens on unofficial visits and that looks to be the case yet again this year.
Following the recent commitment of quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2024, Georgia finds itself in a favorable position to attract other elite talent.
Among the prospects set to participate is Ryan Williams, a five-star wide receiver committed to Alabama in the class of 2025. Hailing from Saraland, Alabama, Williams is ranked as the top wide receiver and the third overall player in his class.
DawgPost is reporting Williams will be in Athens this weekend for the scavenger hunt.
Williams committed to Alabama in October of 2022. Georgia offered him in February and he visited Athens in March.
In 2022, Williams achieved an incredible stat line of 88 receptions, 1,641 receiving yards, 57 carries, 700 rushing yards and 39 total touchdowns.
Adding to the excitement, Jeremiah Smith, a five-star wide receiver committed to Ohio State, is also expected to attend the UGA scavenger hunt. Smith holds the No. 2 spot in the class of 2024, behind Raiola, and brings even more star power to the event.
After the Raiola news, Smith told Chad Simmons of On3Recruits that he’ll have to take a closer look at UGA.
“Georgia getting Dylan means a lot to me and my interest in them. … I have to really give Georgia a look now that they have Dylan.”
Smith is a 6-foot-3, 198-pound receiver who 247Sports calls “one of the most talented wide receiver prospects to come out of South Florida in the modern recruiting era.”
According to Steve Wiltfong, the director of recruiting at 247Sports, if any school has a chance to persuade Smith to change his commitment, it would be Georgia.
“If I had to mark a school that was the biggest threat to flip Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State, it would not be Florida — it would be Georgia.”
DawgPost mentioned that four-star athlete Kamron Mikell will also visit Georgia this weekend. Mikell, out of Statesboro, Georgia, ranks as the No. 29 player in the class of 2024. 247Sports predicts Mikell will commit to UGA, per its crystal ball.
