Repeat Lanarkshire offender remanded in custody over harassment of ex

A man hounded his former partner despite a court ordering him to stay away from her for five years.

Scott Ramage pestered the Wishaw woman with social media messages, emails and voicemails between April 29 and May 30 last year.

Ramage, a prisoner, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

The 43-year-old admitted breaching a five-year non-harassment order imposed at the same court in November 2020 by contacting his former partner repeatedly.

In the previous case Ramage admitted a course of abusive behaviour towards the woman after she blocked him on her mobile phone and social media.

He bombarded her with lengthy letters and e-mails that contained abusive, threatening and sexual comments, as well as references to suicide.

In 2014 Ramage was jailed for 27 months at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for harassing another woman who had broken off their relationship.

The sheriff told him then: "Your actions have effectively destroyed the quality of this woman's life."

At the latest hearing, defence agent Mark Harrower said Ramage's ex-partner had "quite happily" communicated with him despite the non-harassment order.

But he conceded: "That does not excuse this serious breach of a court order. There are mental health issues."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre pointed out that Ramage's ex had "ultimately become distressed" by his messages and contacted the police.

The Sheriff added: "He keeps committing this type of offence so I can't say it's not serious."

Sentence was deferred until later this month and Ramage was again remanded in custody.
