Rep. Val Hoyle, D-Ore., announced her departure from the congressional Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus on Thursday, citing concerns over Elon Musk's cost-cutting actions within the executive branch.
Hoyle, who aimed to enhance government efficiency and fiscal responsibility, expressed her frustration with Musk's initiatives, which she believes prioritize tax breaks for billionaires over the well-being of working individuals.
The DOGE Caucus, established as part of President Donald Trump's re-election campaign, focuses on reducing government waste and increasing transparency in spending. However, Hoyle criticized Musk's influence on the agency, alleging unauthorized access to sensitive Treasury payment systems and intimidating tactics towards government employees.
A federal judge recently intervened, limiting DOGE's access to payment records within the Treasury's Bureau of Fiscal Service to two designated individuals with read-only permissions.

Hoyle emphasized her commitment to efficiency but expressed doubts about the caucus's effectiveness in light of Musk's disruptive actions. She highlighted the challenges faced by Democrats and Republicans within the caucus and questioned the feasibility of their work amidst ongoing controversies.
DOGE's recent actions, including the targeting of USAID and subsequent organizational changes, have sparked criticism and raised concerns about the impact on foreign assistance programs. The agency's focus on canceling contracts and leases has resulted in significant savings for the federal government.
Despite DOGE's claims of saving approximately $1 billion daily through various cost-cutting measures, Hoyle's decision to exit the caucus underscores the growing tensions surrounding Musk's involvement and the agency's approach to government efficiency.
