Rep. Tlaib's Protest During Netanyahu's Speech Sparks Controversy

Israelis support plans by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to overhaul the judicial system protest against Israel's Supreme Court in Jerusalem, Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. Thousands support

During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech, Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American congresswoman, made a statement by holding up a black-and-white sign. The sign had two sides, with one side reading 'War criminal' and the other side stating 'Guilty of genocide.' Tlaib chose to remain seated throughout the duration of the speech, using her sign as a form of protest.

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, known for her hard-right views, approached Tlaib during the speech and sat next to her for a brief interaction. The nature of their conversation was not disclosed, but Luna's decision to sit with Tlaib during the controversial moment added another layer of intrigue to the event.
