Rep. Scanlon Questions Hur On Trump's Handling Of Classified Documents

Donald Trump during speech.

During a recent hearing, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon from Pennsylvania questioned Robert Hur regarding his investigation into classified documents. Hur confirmed that no criminal charges were warranted in the matter, citing a shortage of evidence and innocent explanations for unrefuted documents.

Scanlon highlighted the cooperation of President Biden in the investigation, noting that he promptly turned over classified documents and consented to searches of his properties. In contrast, Hur's report detailed former President Trump's mishandling of classified materials, including his refusal to return documents and obstruction of justice.

Scanlon addressed the attention given to Biden's memory lapses, comparing them to instances of memory lapses by Trump during depositions and investigations. Hur emphasized the importance of assessing a witness's credibility in legal proceedings.

Scanlon raised questions about the credibility of Trump's denials in light of the charges brought against him for concealing classified documents. She requested to enter into the record an excerpt from an interview with a former FBI official, highlighting the urgency to secure classified documents from Trump's estate due to national security concerns.

The exchange between Scanlon and Hur shed light on the contrasting approaches of Biden and Trump towards handling classified information, with a focus on credibility and legal implications.
