Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Trusts Biden's Decision, Supports VP Harris

Joe Biden

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a vocal supporter of President Joe Biden, refrained from expressing disappointment over his decision to exit the presidential race. She emphasized her trust in the president's judgment and decision-making abilities, stating that she believed Vice President Harris is well-prepared to assume the role of president.

When asked about the treatment of Biden by some Democrats, Ocasio-Cortez focused on the current situation, expressing confidence in Harris's leadership qualities and the Democratic party's readiness to secure victory in the upcoming election.

Addressing concerns about Harris's ability to unify the party, Ocasio-Cortez mentioned being encouraged by the widespread support Harris has received following her announcement. She also highlighted the importance of preparing for potential racist and misogynistic attacks against Harris, particularly if she becomes the first woman of color to lead a major party ticket.

Ocasio-Cortez underscored the need to remain vigilant against unfair treatment towards Harris, acknowledging the likelihood of both explicit and implicit discriminatory behavior. She emphasized the significance of distinguishing between fair and unfair criticism to support Harris effectively.

Earlier in the day, GOP Rep. Tim Burchett faced backlash for referring to Harris as a 'DEI hire,' a comment condemned as racist and offensive by Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steve Horsford.
