Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina has announced that she is seriously considering a gubernatorial run in 2026 and will make a final decision in the coming weeks. Mace, who currently represents South Carolina's 1st District, stated that she plans to seek support from former President Donald Trump, who remains popular in the state.

Mace recently introduced a resolution to ban transgender women from using women's bathrooms at the U.S. Capitol and House office buildings, a move that aligns with social conservative views and could enhance her statewide profile. She acknowledged the need to engage more with voters in conservative areas like the Upstate region.

While Mace's district includes the Charleston area, which is considered a swing district, she faces competition from other potential candidates for the governorship. Notable figures such as Attorney General Alan Wilson and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette are also contemplating bids.

When asked about the GOP primary race, Mace mentioned that the lieutenant governor and attorney general are among those seriously considering running. She emphasized the importance of strong leadership and the ability to make tough decisions to move the state forward.

Mace expressed confidence in receiving Trump's support, citing her defense of him in a recent interview and her efforts to rally GOP members behind House Speaker Mike Johnson. She highlighted the significance of having governors who can implement Trump's agenda effectively.

As she explores the possibility of running for governor, Mace plans to visit every county in South Carolina to engage with voters and discuss her vision for the state. She aims to finalize her decision by the end of February or March, after gathering feedback and support from various regions.
