Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has emerged as a prominent figure in the House speaker race, being the sole outspoken Republican against Speaker Mike Johnson's re-election bid. Massie recently took to social media to conduct a poll among his followers, seeking their opinion on whether he should be re-elected to the chamber's top post.
The upcoming speaker vote in the House, scheduled for Friday afternoon, has garnered significant attention as Speaker Johnson aims to secure another term in office. However, Massie's firm stance against the Louisiana Republican has added an element of uncertainty to Johnson's re-election prospects.
In a statement shared on X, Massie expressed his concerns about Johnson's track record, citing instances of what he perceives as betrayal of Republican principles and collaboration with Democrats over the past 18 months. Massie emphasized the need for a change in leadership, suggesting that an alternative candidate could be elected swiftly if Johnson fails to secure the necessary support in the initial round of voting.
Massie provided insights from a poll conducted on his social media platform, revealing that a significant majority of respondents favored electing someone other than Mike Johnson as the Speaker of the House. The poll results indicated that only 7% of participants supported Johnson's re-election bid, while a resounding 93% preferred an alternative candidate for the position.
