Republican Rep. Byron Donald of Florida revealed on Monday that he has not had a direct conversation with former President Donald Trump since the assassination attempt on Saturday, but they did exchange text messages that night.
Donalds, a staunch ally of Trump, shared that Trump is in good spirits and is focused on returning to his political activities. According to Donalds, the incident has given Trump a renewed sense of purpose to continue his campaign and strive to reclaim the White House.
Following the shooting, Trump made the decision to alter his Republican convention speech to emphasize unity, a move that Donalds fully supports. He emphasized the importance of toning down political rhetoric and highlighted the need for national unity, stating, 'We are all Americans. We are one country.'
Donalds, who is a member of the House Oversight Committee, expressed his desire to gather all the relevant information regarding the security lapses that occurred on Saturday night before assigning blame to any specific law enforcement agency or individual.
