A Republican member of the House Oversight Committee expressed his belief that the hearing held on Wednesday would not influence his colleagues to support the potential impeachment of President Biden. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., confidently stated that he did not think the hearing would change any minds among his fellow lawmakers.
Burchett went on to criticize other Republicans, accusing them of conveying conflicting messages to Washington lobbyists and their constituents regarding the impeachment of President Biden. He suggested that some Republicans were assuring lobbyists that they would not support impeachment while telling their constituents back home that they were in favor of it.
According to Burchett, many lawmakers have already made up their minds on how they will vote, regardless of the outcome of the hearing. He emphasized the importance of a clear vote on the matter, stating, 'Everybody's gonna vote how they know they're gonna vote. What a lot of people are worried about if we do have a vote. I want to vote on it up or down.'
When pressed on why some lawmakers might be concerned, Burchett suggested that they lacked the courage to follow through on their public statements. He alleged that some Republicans were telling their K Street associates that they would not support impeachment, while simultaneously assuring their constituents that they were in favor of it.
