Rep. Lauren Boebert recently made the decision to switch congressional districts, a move she described as not easy. Boebert shared that she sought guidance from God before making the decision, acknowledging the potential challenges and criticisms that could arise. In a published interview, she mentioned consulting with God and receiving advice to have faith in divine intervention.
In December, the Colorado Republican announced her intention to leave her current seat in the 3rd congressional district for the more conservative 4th congressional district. Boebert emphasized that the decision was reached after extensive prayer, discussions, and reflection, believing it was the best way for her to continue advocating for Colorado.
This electoral maneuver, often referred to as 'carpetbagging,' has been attempted by other politicians in the past. Notable examples include the late Sen. John McCain, who moved to Arizona to run for office, and Hillary Clinton, who became a senator for New York despite not previously residing there.
However, Boebert may face challenges in winning over voters in the new district. A straw poll conducted among Republicans ranked her fifth among GOP candidates. Additionally, her reelection prospects have been marred by family legal issues, including a restraining order against her ex-husband and incidents involving her son.
In January, Boebert obtained a restraining order against her ex-husband following an altercation involving her son. Subsequently, her son was detained by the Rifle Police Department for alleged vehicle trespass and property thefts. Boebert emphasized that her son should be held accountable for his actions like any other citizen.
Representatives for Boebert have not yet responded to requests for comment on these matters.
