Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-MS, took action on Sunday by firing a staffer for a controversial social media post. The staffer in question, Jacqueline Marsaw, made a post on Facebook that appeared to express a wish for the success of the assassination attempt against former President Trump. In the post, Marsaw suggested that the gunman should have received 'shooting lessons' to ensure a successful outcome next time.
Upon being made aware of the post, Thompson promptly terminated Marsaw's employment, stating that he does not condone violence. Marsaw had been serving as a field director for Thompson since July 2023.
Before her dismissal, Marsaw had a notable background in community involvement. She was a member of the NAACP, where she held various leadership positions, including secretary, vice president, and president. Additionally, Marsaw was actively involved in the Adams County Democratic Party and played a key role in coordinating the Black History Parade. She also previously served as the field director for the National Action Network.
Thompson's office had issued a statement upon Marsaw's hiring, highlighting her extensive experience and contributions to various organizations. However, her recent social media post led to her swift removal from the position.
