Rental redecorating tips that won't risk your deposit

When you're renting a property, it can sometimes difficult to put your own stamp on the place due to landlord or budget restrictions.

Carpet retailer Tapi has shared five easy tips for renters to redecorate without risking their deposit or breaking the bank.

Johanna Constantinou, brand and communications director at Tapi, said: "More and more people are renting properties, especially with the housing market being so competitive. If you’re in a rental property, it’s incredibly important to make sure your space feels like your own."

Here are five risk-free and budget friendly tips for sprucing up a rental home.

Use stick-on tiles

Peel and stick vinyl tiles are a easy way to add some flair to your bathroom or kitchen, according to Tapi. They said: "With an endless number of designs, textures, and styles to choose from, you can completely transform your space in no time.

"This rental friendly tip is also an excellent choice for wet areas such as the kitchen or bathroom because they naturally repel water."

Layer rugs to hide bad flooring

If you're looking to cover up questionable stains or scratches, investing in large area rugs can cover up bad flooring and give the room a whole new look in seconds.

Add homely accessories

Tapi said: "One of the easiest ways to make a house feel more personal is to add in homely accessories. Items you’ve chosen yourself like lightshades, houseplants, rugs, personal photos or decorations will really make your rental property feel like your own space and can be easily removed at the end of your tenancy too."

Spruce up boring walls

Rentals are usually painted white, off-white or beige, but some people prefer a splash of colour on their walls. Tapestries are simple to install and can be hung up without drilling holes thanks to adhesive hooks. You can also use removable wallpaper.

Get your lighting right

Lighting is an easy way to enhance a space and can add atmosphere without breaking the bank.
