Renowned South Ayrshire bar in running to be named Scotland's best live music venue

One of Ayrshire's most renowned live music venues is in the running to strike a chord on the national stage.

Harleys in Ayr's Nile Court is among the country's elite establishments nominated at this year's Scottish Bar & Pub Awards.

Formerly known as the DRAM Awards, and widely recognised as the Oscars of the industry, winners are hailed as the best example of the licensed trade across the nation.

And bosses at Harleys are hoping they can top off a fantastic re-emergence from pandemic times by landing the title of best live music venue.

Lyndsey Pollock, Harleys' head of events and promotions, said: "To reach this stage of the process is very exciting and unexpected.

"Just to be considered in amongst the top four live music venues in Scotland is a fantastic achievement, and an incredible acknowledgement of the talented performers who take to our stage, our hard-working team and loyal customers.

"Regardless of the outcome, we’re very proud to be representing Ayr up against city venues, and we’re extremely grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received during the challenges of the last couple of years."

The venue has been a renowned hotspot for music lovers down the years and has played host to the likes of Ocean Colour Scene and a young Biffy Clyro.

Lyndsey added: "Harleys is a true grassroots venue, offering a varied selection of live music every week.

"Later acoustic sessions run every Thursday, hosted by local performers and also offering an open stage.

"'Beginners encouraged, experience respected’ is very much the motto, and we’ve had some pretty awesome jam sessions of all genres.

"Friday and Saturday host a wide selection of original and covers acts, from Ayrshire and from further afield.

"We have developed a great relationship with the University of the West of Scotland and look forward to hosting their next acoustic showcase later this year, as well as welcoming new acts to our stage in the coming months, such as Redwood Ridge and John Rush."

Harleys will learn their fate at the finals which take place on Tuesday, August 30 at The Doubletree Hilton in Glasgow.
