Rennes boss Habib Beye has lifted the lid on his decision to play Kader Meite over former Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Japan international completed a surprise mid-season switch to Brittany the month before last, although so far, the move has gone far from how Furuhashi would have planned.
He has made just three appearances for his new club, failing to score as of yet.
Furuhashi's struggles were apparent on Saturday when boss Beye played 17-year-old centre-forward Meite ahead of him.

Speaking after the match, the Rennes gaffer lifted the lid on his decision to give the 2007-born attacker the nod over Furuhashi: "Kader Meite is a 2007 player who has come up against some of the top players in the Champions League," he said (Record).
"He's got a situation that he needs to convert, but I hope that he'll have others and that in a year's time it will all come to fruition without any problems.
"It's an immense joy to see a 2007 player express himself against Pacho and BeraIdo, who are certainly the best defenders in France. The spirit he showed and the fight he put up were remarkable for a 17-year-old."
Rennes eventually lost 4-1 at home to PSG on Saturday, with the club currently sitting 11th in Ligue 1.
Jorge Sampaoli originally brought Furuhashi to France, although he departed his post not long after the transfer.
The ex-Parkhead frontman is contracted at his new club until the summer of 2027.
