Inspirational NHS 24 staff took part in the Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for the Headway Charity after a colleague’s dad suffered a cardiac arrest and now requires 24-hour around-the-clock care.
There is concern that Neil Craig, 63 from Erskine, might not make it to his daughter's wedding today. However, the family are really hoping that his health will be good enough for a member of the family to take him to the ceremony.
The NHS 24 staff from Renfrewshire worked as a team and powered through the course in the hopes to raise awareness of the charity and the marvellous work they do.
Michelle Craig, 35 from Renfrewshire, daughter of Neil who also took part in the challenge said: "On the 7th March 2021, our dad suffered a heart attack, in which he had to be resuscitated for over 45 minutes, because of this he suffered catastrophic brain damage. Our families life completely changed.
"A big family of six, who are extremely close, felt like they were losing their leader, as we were told to prepare for the worst. Fast forward over a year later and our amazing dad is still with us, he requires 24 hour care but we get to share special moments with him that for a period of time we didn’t think would be possible.
"Headway have been great, giving advice to our mum, who out of everyone has had to face the biggest change but despite this has been the most caring, loving and dedicated wife by looking after our dad 24/7."
The Tough Mudder Fitness Challenge pushes people past their limits as they clamber over obstacles, climb up structures, and get muddy as they work as a team to achieve their goals and silence their doubts of what they can do.

Nicola Bunce, 28, member of NHS 24 and who led the team through the challenge, said: “It went well. We all got really muddy and wet at the very end. We were all really proud of ourselves for overcoming our worries and things we never did before.
“My colleague’s dad had cardiac arrest and his brain was without oxygen for 40 minutes and as a result of that, he is brain damaged. So, we are raising funds for Headway charity which support him and the family.
“It is particularly important because her sister is getting married on Saturday and given the situation, it is touch and go whether he can actually get to the ceremony or if he will have to watch the ceremony at his own home.”
The group have so far raised £530 from their Just Giving page and all donations will go to Headway to thank and provide support for all the wonderful work the charity does for those who need it.
Headway is a charity that is promoting understanding all the aspects of head injuries whilst also giving support to survivors, their families, and carers.
They want to create awareness and understanding of brain injuries as well as to promote improved approaches to brain injury screening, acute care, assessments, and rehabilitation.
