Renfrewshire councillor's trial continues after claims she made threats and stalked neighbours

A woman has made allegations that a Renfrewshire councillor filmed neighbours using her mobile phone and had “major issues” where people parked their car in a residential street.

Scottish Conservative and Unionist politician Jane Strang is standing trial over allegation she made threats and stalked her neighbours.

Strang, 60, is accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Windsor Road, Renfrew, in 2019.

The Renfrewshire councillor is said to have shouted, swore, uttered threats and behaved in an aggressive manner on the street.

At Paisley Sheriff Court, Karen McVey gave evidence claiming her local councillor had “a problem with where people parked their cars.”

Mrs McVey told how she and her husband moved in to a property on Windsor Road about seven years ago and became neighbours with Strang’s parents.

She told how issues started with the Strang’s about a year after moving to Windsor Road and told of an incident where she alleges the Tory councillor ran out of her parents’ house and began shouting and making threats towards another neighbour and her husband.

Mrs McVey told the court: “I had been clearing the attic so my husband had gone off to the dump.

“My dog was outside and she started barking so I went out to bring her in because as well as the parking problems, Jane Strang also has issues with my dog barking.

“Bailey, my dog was barking at my neighbours Alanna and Eddie as she was wanting to see them, but then I became aware of shouting in the street.

“Jane was having an argument with Alanna and Eddie as their daughter’s car was parked outside and they were needing to jump start it.

“Jane was shouting and cursing at Eddie and Alanna saying, ‘I’ll get you f*****g done’ and that she would ‘f*****g get him the sack on Monday.’

“Jane then turned and shouted at Alanna, ‘I’ll get her f*****g done as well.’

“Jane kept running in and out of her house and kept shouting when she came out.”

Mrs McVey told of occasions where she alleged Strang would take pictures and videos of her and her husband and would threaten them with calls to the council.

Mrs McVey told: “Jane would say she was going to phone her good friend Oliver Reid at the council and Eddie would be sacked on Monday.

“Jane has always got her phone. She is always holding it up as if she is taking pictures or videos of us. It’s a constant way of living with Ms Strang.

“I have honestly no idea what her issue is, at no point can anyone park their can a centimetre near to their hedge line on either side of the entrance to their driveway.

“They don’t have a car but at no point have I ever witnessed a car blocking her drive.”

Strang denies the charges. The trial before Sheriff Suhkwinder Gill is set to continue.
