Renfrew police launch campaign to raise awareness of doorstep crime

Officers from the Renfrew community policing team have been out raising awareness of their campaign to help stop doorstep crime.

The campaign aims to help educate people on the dangers of doorstep crime and encourage any members of the public who have been approached by bogus callers to report it to police.

Officers have been out speaking with members of the public and handing out leaflets in a bid to try and tackle doorstep crime and eradicate it from the community.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Bogus callers will cold call and will turn up at your door step and can be very convincing.

“Sometimes they pretend to be from genuine companies, and can have fake ID.

“The easiest way to deal with these types of bogus workmen is by saying “No” and calling the police.

“Don’t be afraid if you are not sure about calling us, we would much rather deal with a false call as opposed to you becoming a victim of a crime.”

“Look out for your friends, family members and neighbours.

“Many of these cold callers are con artists and we would like to raise awareness amongst our communities to prevent your loved ones from being scammed.”

Anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour or is contacted by a bogus caller can contact police via 101, or in the case of an emergency by dialling 999. You can also report anonymously using Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
