Renfrew couple shocked after discovering giant jellyfish 'dead' on Troon beach

A couple from East Renfrewshire were out for a stroll along Troon beach on Wednesday afternoon (July 5) when they discovered nine "dead" jellyfish lying lifeless along the shore.

Cindy Mann and her husband Aimad headed to the Ayrshire coast at around 3.30pm when they initially spotted one jellyfish. As they walked along the beach, the shocked couple found up to nine jellyfish who were believed to be dead.

They were "huge" and not something the couple had ever seen before, Cindy said.

The 53-year-old, from Clarkston, told GlasgowLive: "We saw nine huge jellyfish and they were all dead. There were a couple of small ones too.

"I was looking around and thinking someone should come and lift them and put them back into the water but who do you speak to on a beach? There was nobody.

"Other people weren’t too bothered and were just walking by and avoiding it. We were touching it with our foot to see if there was any life in them but they were so big, we couldn’t get it into the water."

Cindy added: "We go there (Troon beach) often and this is the first time we have seen anything like this. We were gobsmacked and it was heartbreaking to see.

"I had never seen such a huge jellyfish before, it was actually quite sad and we were pretty shocked.

"I don’t know why this happened, is there something in the water?"
