Renfrew cleaner 'ghosted' by boss who stopped paying wages awarded £5k by judge

A cleaner who was 'ghosted' by her boss has been awarded ten months' worth of wages by an employment tribunal.

Ms Crozier had worked for Reem Gleam Cleaning Limited based in Renfrew for 12 years before being told that the company had encountered "financial difficulties" in July 2022.

The worker was asked to "bear with" company director Ryan Marsh while they resolved the issues and told that he would be in touch.

By the following May, Ms Crozier was still waiting to be paid and had no idea whether she was still employed by the company. Despite contacting her boss for answers, she continued to be ignored.

A few months after she was told Reem Gleam had encountered financial difficulties, the cleaner discovered that Mr Marsh had set up a new company called Infiniti Cleaning Solutions Limited based at the same address in Renfrew.

Ms Crozier then decided to take the company to an employment tribunal for unlawful deduction from wages due.

Judge Hoey ruled that the cleaner was entitled to be paid 10 months' wages.

He concluded: "She was ready willing and able to work for the 10-month period but no wages were paid to her.

"Her employment continued and she was due to be paid. She had not been dismissed and had not ended her employment contract.

"Consequently the sums the claimant received by way of wages was less than that properly payable. There was a series of deductions since for the last 10 months the respondent had failed to pay the sums due to the claimant.

"The respondent has made an unlawful deduction from the wages due to her."

Reem Gleam Cleaning Limited has been ordered to pay Ms Crozier for ten months of wages amounting to £5,400.

She told the tribunal that she would be writing to the company asking for confirmation about her position and that if she didn't hear back she would advise both companies that she is resigning and seek compensation against both for unfair dismissal.

The company wasn't present during the hearing and put forward no defence.
