The $2.2 million revamp of the Woden Library was on show on Wednesday, with children and adults attending an open day.
Libraries ACT executive branch manager Vanessa Little said the much-loved facility was now a "21st century library", featuring new additions from a recording studio to meeting rooms for community groups, which were also available after hours
The open day featured paper-plane-making sessions for children to podcasting workshops. Jen Seyderhelm was teaching the podcast class, with participant Shui Kabir keen to apply the technology for his cooking classes while Suzanna Thell wanted to use the skills for an online yoga school for kids she was opening.
But there was also still an attention on books, with Ms Little enjoying a conversation with 10-year-old Nina Fellows from Curtin about her favourite books.
Nina loved reading books about World War II because she liked reading about "things that make me think".
City Services Minister Chris Steel said the Woden Library was a taste of what was possible in modern libraries and a likely precursor of other library upgrades, with consultation now underway as to the future of the sector.
"It is the type of facility we'd like to see in other libraries in Canberra," he said.
Mr Steel said as other apartment towers went up in the Woden town centre, public facilities such as the library were important as people who did not have a "huge amount of private space" spent more time in the public realm.
Much of the new facilities went into space vacated by an Access Canberra office and the Heritage Library which moved to Canberra Avenue.
