A North East renewable energy specialist is set to create new jobs after expanding to a new base on the back of growing demand.
Clear Climate, which specialises in air conditioning, air source and heat pumps as well as data centres, is poised to double turnover from £2.5m to £5m by the end of 2022 and reach £10m in the next couple of years.
The Peterlee firm already works with businesses and organisations including Durham County Council, Bellway Homes, Tolent, Darlington Borough Council and Barker and Stonehouse, and its growing client list is triggering expansion of its office team from 10 to 15 and the number of engineers it employs from 50 to 60.

The job creation is driven by its expanding foothold in the air source heat pump market, which is taking the number of installations from 150 to 500 per year.
The transition from traditional boilers to air source heat pumps is part of the Government’s drive to be Net Zero by 2050, and to do that over 1.1m systems must be installed in properties and commercial developments nationwide by 2030.
Manager director Lee Peachey, who founded Clear Climate in 2017, said: “Our growth within the air source heat pump market will be significant over the coming months as both the public and private sector make the switch from the traditional boilers found in many properties to the more environmentally friendly and economically sustainable air source heat pumps. The challenge we face is enormous as we work towards the Net Zero 2050 challenge, and we all have a responsibility to do what we can.
“For us as a leading business within the fast-growing renewables sector, it presents a huge opportunity and that’s something we’ve started planning for, to ensure we’re ideally placed to meet the demand for air source heat pump installations.”
Clear Climate recently moved into a new facility at Fern Court in Peterlee, which also has office space and a training academy, where the next generation of engineers can be trained.
Director Andy Smith added: “Although we initially launched as an air conditioning business, and this remains a key area for us, it’s our position within the renewables sector that we’re really pushing.
“That’s why we’ve created the training academy on site, which puts us in the perfect position to be able to recruit the engineers we need to support our growth, knowing that because they’ve been trained by us, they’re working to our exacting standards.
“In line with targets set by Government, we expect the number of installations in both residential property and commercial developments to reach around 350 by the end of the year, yet that still a drop in the ocean compared to how many must be installed nationwide by 2030 if we’re to reach the numbers set out as part of the Net Zero drive.”
