A development application has been submitted for a government-run health centre in South Tuggeranong, revealing new details about the service.
The centre, on the corner of Box Hill Avenue and Heidelberg Street in Conder, was confirmed in 2023 as the first of four health centres the government will build.
The other three will be in the Inner South, North Gungahlin and West Belconnen.
The $16.4 million centre is proposed to have 11 consulting rooms across two storeys, along with a multi-use space for visiting practitioners.
Specialisations including paediatric care, pathology collection, dementia care and a dedicated diabetes clinic will be available.
ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said the development application was submitted after broad consultation with community and health services.
As a result, treatment of falls and injury prevention, a chronic disease programs and a virtual care service will be part of the centre.
It is directly adjacent to a roundabout and across from a primary school.
Distinctive light-green, burnt-orange colouring will characterise the centre's facade.
Inside, low-level warm lighting and orange walls will be complemented by planter boxers.
Concrete seats and gold balustrades for a ramp leading up to the centre are also proposed.
A total of 40 car spaces, including 30 for patient use, will be built on the ground level of the site.
Bike parks will also be available, along with pick-up and drop-off zones.
Traffic plans viewed by The Canberra Times suggest mini buses would be able to access to car park, creating potential for planned visits from neighbouring care facilities.
Access to the car park will be from Box Hill Avenue and Heidelberg Street.
There are two bus stops within a 500-metre walk of the site, servicing six routes in total.
Submitted by Canberra town planning on behalf of the ACT government, the application shows green spaces and new trees for patients to enjoy.
Ms Stephen-Smith said it was important the centre responded to the leafy suburb around it and offered people an enjoyable space to visit.
The development application is available for community feedback until September 9.
"Public notification of the development application is another opportunity for the Tuggeranong community to provide input on the detailed facility plans and I encourage everyone in the local community to have a look and provide feedback," Ms Stephen-Smith said.
Work is expected to start on the centre in late 2024, with completion slated for 2025.
Early design work is underway for the health centres planned in North Gungahlin, the Inner South and West Belconnen.
