Renan Lodi to Nottingham Forest transfer update as clubs ‘in talks’ over deal

Nottingham Forest are reportedly ‘in talks’ with Atletico Madrid to sign last season’s loanee Renan Lodi on a permanent deal this summer.

The Brazilian spent last season on loan at the City Ground, and played a key part in the team’s survival in the Premier League. The full-back made a total of 32 appearances in all competitions for the club and impressed with his performances, so much so, that the Reds are keen to make the deal permanent.

Forest did have an option to make the deal permanent in the loan agreement for around €25 million (£21.4m), but that expired before the end of the season.

According to FootballTransfers , Atletico are after a price of around €20 million for the player (£17m) with Forest making an approach to the Spanish club in ‘recent days’. The report adds that no offer has been made for Forest, but the player is ‘very open’ to a return, despite his ambitions to play Champions League football.

Forest are said to be ‘in talks’ with Atletico, with the reports saying that the eventual fee could turn out to be ‘around the €15 million (£12.9m) mark’. That contradicts previous reports that have claimed that the Spanish club are demanding €30 million (£25.6m) for the player.

Speaking last month, Lodi’s agent Pablo Miranda spoke of the player’s ambitions. “Renan's goal is to compete at the highest level,” he said in a translated interview . “(He) Made 32 appearances in the toughest league in the world. Many Brazilian players suffer in their first season in England and end up not playing.

“Renan was instrumental in Nottingham's stay in the Premier League and has everyone's recognition for what he did during that season. That said, his goal is to continue playing in high-level competitions, if possible, return to the Champions League and compete for titles again.”
