Argentina legend Mario Kempes has likened Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe and questioned why he wasn't taken to the World Cup.
Garnacho has not played for United since suffering an ankle injury in March’s goalless draw with Southampton is yet to return to team training. The setback meant he missed out on a possible first senior Argentina cap after being called up to the squad for last month’s internationals.
It seems the 18-year-old is making progress on his recovery though, having sent fans wild when sharing a photo of him back in boots on Instagram. It’s been a short sour chapter in a breakthrough season for the teenager.

After being granted his full United debut in October, Garnacho has started a further nine games having racked up a total of 29 first-team appearances this term and is now considered a key part of the senior furniture.
He has netted four times and provided five assists, which include a stoppage-time winner against Fulham in November and a set-up for Marcus Rashford’s decisive strike against Manchester City in January.
Kempes has been tracking the progress of the youngster and is mightily impressed, it seems. The 1978 World Cup winner and top scorer said the attacker remind him of France icon Mbappe.
Speaking on D Sports Radio he revealed his bemusement of why Garnacho was not taken to Qatar in December by boss Lionel Scaloni. He said: "Garnacho has an incredible category and personality. He reminds me of Mbappe. I don't know why he didn't go to the World Cup."
Madrid-born Garnacho has been called up to the Argentina senior squad twice but is yet to make his debut.
There are rumours Spain are trying to lure him into a switch of allegiance, although it is thought he is set on representing the World Cup champions, whom he qualifies for through his mother.
