The redevelopment and rebranding of the area formerly known as Tiger Bay has seen Cardiff Bay blossom into a jewel in Cardiff’s crown.
In summer especially, tourists and locals alike flock to the Bay for the theatre, restaurants, bars and attractions that make the area a vibrant hub of the community.
But the Cardiff Bay we see now is a world away from the Tiger Bay of old, as these amazing old pictures show.

YOUR MEMORIES
BARBARA MACARTHUR, a semi-retired social worker from Cardiff, sent us a copy of an article taken from a 1975 edition of the Community Care magazine.
Barbara said: "When the young journalist arrived at Social Services where chief officials promised to help - surprise! surprise! - none of them could be located so I took him with me in my banger and introduced him to people like Chalky White, the ladies at the Community Centre, the medical centre, The Paddle and the Bosun, and so forth."
Thanks to Barbara stepping in to help, this is the article that appeared, 40 years' ago:
'Despite the toughness, the riots, the deaths in the streets that were a hallmark of the old Bay, everyone agrees there was a closely knit, tightly organised community - and a multi-racial one'
'Tiger Bay was the first coloured community in Britain. The first recorded landing by a free black man was in Cardiff docks'
'Among Tiger Bay's most famous ex-citizens are Shirley Bassey and Joe Erskine'
'...the Tiger has crept away to hide in people's hearts, a memory of an unruly but loveable rogue'
