AS her 1985 hit Running Up That Hill sprints to the top of the charts because of Stranger Things, the timelessness and longevity of Kate Bush’s music is undoubtedly strong.
But while her Scottish fanbase has remained strong throughout the decades, she has only ever played in the country once.
In support of her albums The Kick Inside and Lionheart, the singer-songwriter played in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall in 1979 in what would be her only ever Scottish performance.
Consisting of a whopping 22-song setlist, it’s clear that Kate put her all into the show and the tour in general.
The creative young musician even included a storyline throughout her show, accompanied by visual projections and the use of pre-recorded audio clips.
Reviews for the tour at the time praised Kate for her performance and vocal abilities, as well as the originality of her work.
The Guardian’s Robin Denselow thought the tour was “exceptional”, and it was even the focus of a BBC documentary which was screened that same year.
However, after this tour she did not perform in concert again until 2014 when she participated in a 22-show long residency called Before the Dawn in London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
Her aversion to touring has been explained by Kate herself as resulting from the physical exhaustion she experienced whilst on The Tour of Life.
Bush has been thrust into the limelight again in recent weeks as her 1985 hit Running Up That Hill was used extensively in Netflix's Stranger Things.
Bush, 63, has said she is pleased the song was a “positive totem” for Max Mayfield's character.
In a statement, the singer said: “When the first series came out, friends kept asking us if we’d seen Stranger Things, so we checked it out and really loved it.
“We’ve watched every series since then, as a family. When they approached us to use Running Up That Hill, you could tell that a lot of care had gone into how it was used in the context of the story and I really liked the fact that the song was a positive totem for the character, Max.
“I’m really impressed by this latest series. It’s an epic piece of work – the shows are extremely well put together with great characters and fantastic SFX.
“It’s very touching that the song has been so warmly received, especially as it’s being driven by the young fans who love the shows.
“I’m really happy that the Duffer Brothers are getting such positive feedback for their latest creation. They deserve it.”
After its initial release as the lead single on Bush’s fifth studio album, Running Up That Hill reached number three on the official UK charts.
Since featuring in Stranger Things the song has re-entered the Official Chart Company UK singles charts and currently sits at number six.
