Arsenal star Reiss Nelson has opened up about his recent conversations with manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu after signing a new contract with the club.
Nelson's former deal expired at the end of June, with the likes of Serie A giants AC Milan linked to a potential free transfer. But the Hale End academy graduate decided to stay in north London, penning a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium on a long-term basis.
Now, he has revealed why he decided he wanted to stay with Arteta's side. When asked what factors went into the decision, Nelson told the club's official media team: "It's just the way that I felt like we played last season, I've been here for many years.
"I've been here the good years and bad years, you know, and I feel like last year especially, I've seen the rise that Arsenal have taken, taking them to new heights and I feel like I want to be part of the journey. I want to be part of us going to the next level, which I think the boss, Edu, the backroom staff and the new players and the current players are making.
"So it was something I really didn't want to miss, a train I didn't want to miss and I want to be here for it, so I'm glad that I made the right decision."

The 23-year-old was then asked if he could reveal anything about his conversations with Arteta and Edu, to which he replied by saying: "So there was a conversation with Edu and the boss, we had a good conversation, a conversation that allowed me, I think, in my head and my heart to relax, and I feel like next season would allow me to grow and take the next step in my career."
