It's no secret that marble is a kitchen staple. As an eternally popular backsplash and countertop choice, the shiny and magnificent material stands the test of time as a durable and ultra-modern home fixture.
Girls Trip and Scary Movie star Regina Hall has put a twist on the beloved stone, utilizing the cool material as the exterior for a warming home staple – her fireplace. The actress posted a photo on her Instagram page of the black-and-white house warmer, which pairs well with other modern touches such as a marble-patterned dining chair and wood table.
Marble fireplaces may not be as commonplace as their brick counterparts (yet), but experts say that natural stone is the new frontier for this home piece.
'This season’s trend in fireplaces is all about the bolection. A bolection is a simple, molded fireplace that has a simple curve,' explains Owen Pacey, founder of fireplace specialist and antique emporium Renaissance London. 'They have been around since the 16th century and made a resurgence in the 1930s.'
While Hall's fireplace is relatively smooth, it takes cues from the bolection trend via its marble material; a staple of the design.
'The beauty of this style is in its simplicity. Bolection fireplaces are so popular as they span all periods. You can choose from a variety of marbles and stones. Their simplicity lends itself to so many settings,’ notes Pacey.
Most of all Pacey encourages experimentation with fireplaces. Whether opting for a black and white marble piece like Hall's, or a white stone piece with elegant details, precious stone is sure to stun in the home.
'If you have a newbuild home, a bolection fireplace is the perfect style of fireplace,' Pacey states. 'It has very clean lines, which take inspiration from antique fireplaces typical of the unfussy English aesthetic, and they sit very well in a more modern environment.’
