Reggaeton superstar Don Omar reveals he has cancer

MIAMI - Puerto Rican urban music star Don Omar shocked his fans on Monday with terrible news regarding his health. The King of Reggaeton revealed that he is suffering from cancer and that he is undergoing the corresponding medical treatment.

William Omar Landrón Rivera, chose to share the sad news on his official Instagram account, where he shared a photograph of his wrist wearing a bracelet from the Orlando Health hospital network and a text that read, "Today I do, but tomorrow I won't have cancer. Good intentions are welcome. See you soon".

What is happening with Don Omar

The 46-year-old Latino artist did not give further details of the type of cancer he is suffering from or what stage he is in, although his message, filled with optimism about remission, has led fans to hope for the best.

He immediately received thousands of messages of support from his fans, followers, and colleagues of the Latin music genre, who expressed words of encouragement and wished him a speedy recovery.

"Prayers for the legend," said one fan.

"Don Omar revealing that he has cancer just broke my heart," said another

Artists like Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, Farruko, Jerry Rivera, and more, also filled his comment sections, expressing support.

"Pa' lante William, you have already won the first battle: mental and attitude. My respects. Now let's win the physical one," said Daddy Yankee in his emotional message. "You are in my prayers, and above all things, more than ever, I wish you: HEALTH AND LIFE! We are with you, God Bless You. "My Lord and God, I asked you for help, and you healed me". PSALMS 30:2".

Other comments, besides wishing him health and a speedy recovery, were surprised by the fact that Don Omar is not even 50 years old.

Don Omar and his tour

Last April, Don Omar announced the extension of his "Back to Reggaeton" tour with dates during August and September in several cities in the United States. So far, these presentations are still confirmed, but it may be too soon to tell how much this diagnosis will affect his professional life.

Born in Puerto Rico but based in Orlando, Don Omar is one of the most important figures in urban music. He has received 13 Latin Grammy nominations and has won the categories of best urban song for "Hasta que salga el Sol" and best urban music album for "MTO2 New generation".

He has been very open about his struggles with addictions and how he has embraced his Christian faith, which is for him the anchor of his recovery.
