Referee headbutts supporter as Renfrew football match chaos caught on video

An amateur football match in Renfrew was abandoned after the referee head-butted a supporter.

The shocking incident took place during the tie between Paisley side Stanley Athletic and Port Glasgow United at King George V playing fields at the weekend.

Footage posted online by charity Refereesupportuk show the referee charge a young man standing on the side of the pitch after words were exchanged, before fellow spectators pulled the referee away as trouble flared.

Stanley Athletic revealed on Twitter that the match had been called off due to the incident, the Daily Record reports.
