Shawn Hochuli, son of longtime former referee Ed Hochuli, will preside over Sunday’s NFC Championship game as the lead official. It will be the second Eagles game he’s worked this season, with the first being Philadelphia’s win over Cleveland in Week 6.
In that game, 12 flags were thrown, with seven against the Browns and five against the Eagles.
According to Pro Football Reference, Hochuli is a stickler for penalty calls. Over his 10-year career, he’s averaged 103+ penalties per game.

Hochuli has been one of the referees with the highest penalty count this season and tends to average high numbers in the games he calls. So far this season, he has called 16 games, penalizing the home team 108 times and the visitors 113 times. Hochuli has averaged 13 penalties per game, 48.87% on the home team, and the home team has won 62.50% of the games he has called.
Hochuli’s 13.81 penalties per game and 113.19 penalty yards are above the league averages.
Hochuli’s father, Ed, was a ref in the NFL for 28 seasons (1990-2017).
