Referee for Baltimore’s divisional round game has a history of penalizing Ravens

The Ravens and Bills are set for a gigantic AFC divisional round matchup, ripe with storylines involving MVP candidates Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

One storyline to watch will be the referee in charge, Carl Cheffers.

According to Pro Football Reference, Cheffers is a stickler for penalty calls. Over his 25-year career, he’s averaged 10+ penalties per game.

Cheffers has thrown 164 total flags this season, 73 of which were on the home team and 91 on the away team. The home team won nearly 73% of the games he reffed this season.

That’s an average of roughly 10 total flags per game for a total of 1284 yards.

Baltimore is one of the most penalized teams in the NFL. During their matchup against the Chargers earlier this season, Cheffers called 12 penalties on the Ravens.
