Referee appointments confirmed for Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden

The Scottish FA have confirmed their refereeing appointments for this weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final ties at Hampden Park.

With a place in next month’s showpiece final on the line, the four clubs remaining in the competition will head to the national stadium hoping to take another step toward lifting the famous old trophy — and the officials tasked with overseeing the action have now been revealed.

Calum Scott will be the man in the middle for the meeting between Celtic and St Johnstone on Sunday, as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to keep their treble hopes alive.

The Hoops are on the brink of a fourth-straight Scottish Premiership title and can make it official when they face Dundee United in their next league outing.

But before that, attention turns to Hampden, where they’ll face a Saints side who shocked them at McDiarmid Park earlier this month with a 1-0 victory.

Scott will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and Dougie Potter on the lines, while Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duty, supported by assistant VAR Alan Mulvanny.

In the other semi-final, Hearts and Aberdeen will go head-to-head as both teams aim to book a return to the national stadium and a shot at Scottish Cup glory.

The Tynecastle club are desperate for silverware to salvage their campaign after missing out on a top-six Premiership finish.

A final-day draw with Motherwell left them short, allowing St Mirren to snatch the last place in the upper half of the table. European football for next season now rests on lifting the cup - and the pressure is on head coach Neil Critchley to deliver.

Jimmy Thelin's Aberdeen side, meanwhile, are chasing their own end-of-season high, with the Swede aiming to make his first campaign at Pittodrie a successful one.

Aberdeen endured a bruising visit to Hampden earlier this season, suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat against Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, and will be keen to set the record straight.

John Beaton has been selected to oversee that encounter, with Daniel McFarlane and David Roome named as his assistants. VAR duties fall to Greg Aitken, with Sean Carr appointed as his AVAR.
