Reese Witherspoon combines 3 distinct patterns to design a powder room that oozes luxury

Reese Witherspoon.

If anyone deserves a pink powder room, it's Reese Witherspoon. The Legally Blonde actress, synonymous with the hue, uses it in one of the most inspiring ways we've ever seen. However, while the colors in her powder room do some of the talking, we'd argue that her patterns and textures take center stage.

The actress's powder room exhibits three distinct patterns: one in her modernist pink wallpaper, one in her marble veining, and one in her classic chequerboard floor. Each one of these features has the power to make a statement in its own right, yet, they work harmoniously together. It's unsurprising, therefore, that this space is one of the actress's favorites.

'I can't wait to show you my powder room, it's the room I'm most proud of,' she says. 'Powder rooms are a place to express your personality, and I get really excited when my friends come over, like go to the bathroom, it's really fun.'

The overall look achieves the impossible: it's timeless but contemporary, dramatic yet understated – and it deserves to be replicated far beyond Los Angeles.

Pink wallpaper aside, designers say that replicating the look begins with statement marble. Reese has chosen a large white and gray slab and accentuated its quietly luxurious feel with mixed metal finishes. 'One of the things I love about this room is the mix of metals. We thought this faucet would be so beautiful,' Reese comments. And she's not alone in her admiration for her marble and mixed metal combination.

'Real white marble and unlacquered brass both age beautifully. They show areas of heavy use and a life well lived,' says designer Nicole Roe from R. Nickson Interiors. 'This patina represents long-term success; it's not just newly made to tap into a certain vibe. The material has been around for centuries, both in terms of its style and strength, so we know it has a staying power.'

Alongside decorating with marble, Reese uses monochromatic chequerboard tiles to complete the trio of textures. Her tiles work seamlessly alongside the other patterns, but we can also make them work in more neutral spaces where the floor can be the single talking point.

'Tiles are increasingly being used as decorative pieces of art in the home. Be it your kitchen, bathroom, entryway, or even on the stairs, using tiles within any scheme shows off their beautiful textures and patterns while at once uplifting a space,' adds Adrian Blundell, a tile expert from Craven Dunnill Jackfield

'Mixed media including combinations of ceramic and stone are becoming increasingly popular to create contemporary inspired geometric layouts.'
