Reefer Madness, the iconic musical, is set to make a triumphant return to Los Angeles in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The original creative team is reuniting for a limited eight-week engagement at the Whitley in Los Angeles, with the opening night scheduled for May 30.
The production will feature familiar faces such as Kristen Bell, Christian Campbell, and Alan Cumming, who will also serve as producers alongside creators Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. Andy Fickman, known for directing the 2005 film adaptation of Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, will join America Olivo Campbell as a producer. Spencer Liff, a seasoned choreographer, will take on the roles of director and choreographer for the revival.
Reefer Madness, with its book and lyrics by Murphy and music by Studney, delves into the consequences of marijuana use in a small Middle America town. The story follows a seemingly ordinary teenager whose life spirals out of control due to a dangerous addiction. The musical first premiered in L.A. in 1999 before moving Off Broadway in 2001 and later becoming a TV movie in 2005.
The revival promises new material from the creators, offering audiences a fresh take on the beloved production. Following each performance, attendees can immerse themselves in the Reefer Den, a post-show nightclub experience featuring Broadway stars, live music, surprise guests, and a selection of food and drinks.
