Reece Topley tipped for England Test future after impressive T20I comeback vs West Indies

Reece Topley has been tipped to go on and play Test cricket for England by Steve Harmison, provided he can stay fit.

Topley has struggled with injuries over the years, suffering multiple stress fractures in his back.

The 27-year-old has worked tirelessly to overcome those injuries and made his return to the England setup in 2020, playing in the second ODI against Ireland.

Topley also made England's World Cup squad last year as an injury replacement for Tymal Mills, but had to wait until this year's tour of the West Indies to make his first T20I appearance in five years.

And the left-arm seamer has impressed, picking up wickets while also being economical.

Harmison has described Topley's performances as "fantastic" and believes he could have a future in Test cricket.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Harmison said: "He looks in good order, you've got to keep him playing. He's been fantastic!

"He's had the bit between his teeth and Reece Topley [just] needs to stay fit now. I talked to him a couple of days ago and it seems as though he's at a turning point with his body.

"He's getting more and more bowling and more and more days inside of him without getting injured and I think Reece Topley needs that.

"If he can play the longer format of the game - what an option that would be!"

Despite his injury struggles, Topley has refused to solely focus on limited overs cricket and was able to feature in seven County Championship matches for Surrey last year, bowling a total of 199.3 overs and picking up 21 wickets at an average of 29.33.
