Reece James sends heartfelt message after Olivia Pratt shooting and makes clear point to UK government

Reece James has sent the UK Government a stern message following Olivia Pratt-Korbel's brutal Liverpool shooting.

On Monday 22nd of August at the time when the Manchester United vs Liverpool game was coming to a close, back in Merseyside, horrific events unfolded. Nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel was shot dead as her mother struggled with defending her daughter against two men who managed to trespass into their house. The incident took place in and around Kingsheath Avenue.

The gunman in this situation had intentions of targeting 35-year-old Joseph Nee who has been arrested for questioning, as per the BBC. Whilst the whole of the country bereaves a shocking crime, many sports stars and politicians have come out to send their condolences to Olivia's family.

Conservative party leader hopefuls Liz Truss and Rishi Sunk spoke about their plans to tackle and prevent these types of incidents from happening in the future during their most recent hustings event in Birmingham.

More importantly, though, James wanted to send a message to the two hopeful Boris Johnson successors and has urged for more to be done to reduce the rates of knife crime and gun crimes that are being committed in this country.

'Honestly, makes me so upset to see what is happening in our society. Teenagers running around with weapons ruining lives and innocent kids getting caught in the middle.

'The government needs to do more. Society needs to do more. We all need to do more. This cannot go on.' James' words have been backed up by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher who discussed the whole situation in the Liverpool Echo's rallying cry video from celebrities where each person pleaded for people to come forward.

He tweeted on @Carra23: 'Enough is enough. RIP Olivia [followed by a broken heart emoji].'
