A development of nearly 1,000 homes is set to be built in Dorset following the sale of a large plot of land in the county for an undisclosed sum.
Housebuilder Redrow Homes Southern Counties is planning a neighbourhood of 961 properties on the site in Gillingham, which was acquired with planning permission for residential development.
When complete, the 143-acre scheme will also include public open spaces and a local centre with the potential to provide a mix of retail, community, health and leisure amenities.
The development, which is two miles from the A30 and six miles from the A303, will also provide affordable housing - although it is not clear yet home many homes will be allocated as affordable.
The sale of the land was completed by national property consultancy Carter Jonas and Yeovil-based commercial property agent Chesters Harcourt. It is believed to be the largest land transaction conducted in Dorset for several years, according to Carter Jonas.
James Bainbridge and Steve Morris of Carter Jonas's Oxford and Bristol planning and development teams, and Nigel Jones of Chesters Harcourt, were involved in completing the deal. Andrew Hodgson of Welbeck Land acted as promoter on behalf of the private landowners.
Mr Morris said: “The Gillingham Strategic Southern Expansion is set to become a popular new community and the sale to Redrow is a very positive step in building that community.”
Jack Allan, land director at Redrow Homes Southern Counties, added: “We are delighted with how smoothly this transaction was completed and we are now looking forward to delivering the much-needed housing in Gillingham.”
