Andrew Redmayne is happy for Sydney FC to continue their helter-skelter approach to football under Ufuk Talay even though the goalkeeper's clean sheet tally might take a battering.
Thirteen games into their A-League Men season, Sydney finally enjoyed their first clean sheet of the campaign last week when Redmayne shut out the Newcastle Jets in a 4-0 thumping.
Talay's focus since taking the job in November has been on transforming the Sky Blues into a side that can play a high-tempo pressing game.
The philosophy does have its weaknesses, however, occasionally leaving Sydney vulnerable at the back with rivals happy to exploit gaps in the defence on the counter attack.
But Redmayne isn't hung up on his personal tally of clean sheets, pointing to Sydney's recent track record of outscoring opponents as vindication of their approach.
"We play a high risk, high reward kind of football and when we get it right I think you've seen that it goes really right," Redmayne said ahead of Friday's trip to face league-leading Melbourne Victory.
"When we get it wrong we're kind of a little bit off and we do concede some chances.
"But being a goalkeeper my job is to stop all the goals.
"It's nice to have a clean sheet and it's rewarding for the work that we are putting in."
Sydney have won four of their last five games under Talay and have climbed into the top six for the first time this season.
Their last big loss, coincidentally, came in a 3-0 hammering away to Victory back in December.
But Redmayne said that result counts for little, arguing Sydney's style under their new head coach was beginning to bear fruit.
"We're in a good spot, the mood in the changing room is really good and we're playing an exciting brand of football that we're still only in the early beginnings of," Redmayne said.
"I think we're only going to get better with time as the season goes on.
"So it's an exciting prospect to test yourself against the best at the moment and we're really looking forward to the challenge."
